Bulldog Shuttle Lock in Prosthetics 🦿
A bulldog shuttle lock is a mechanical suspension system commonly used in below-knee prostheses to securely connect the limb to the socket.
🔹 How it works:
A silicone liner with a distal pin is worn over the residual limb. When inserted into the socket, the pin engages with a spring-loaded locking mechanism (“bulldog” lock) at the bottom, creating a firm hold. It releases easily with a button or lever.
🔹 Key benefits:
• Strong and reliable suspension
• Easy to use (simple click-in system)
• Provides secure limb positioning
🔹 Limitations:
• May cause pressure at the distal end
• Pin and lock can wear over time
👉 Widely used in transtibial prosthetics for its simplicity and durability.
